Lecture Review|Professor Cao Jing’s LectureonAerospace
In order toincrease students’aerospace knowledge and cultivate their scientific and technological innovation ability,the International School of Guangzhou HuangshangCollege invited Professor Cao Jing, an expert in scientific communication in the field of satellite meteorology in China, to lectureon“Power and Romance of the Aerospace” at 2 pm on April 19th, 2022. Due to the epidemic, the lecturermade a speechonline, butnearly 300 facultyand studentsparticipatedonlineorofflinewith enthusiasm.
ProfessorCao Jing is an expert in scientific communication in the field of satellite meteorology in China,a senior engineer, theformer deputy stationmaster of Guangzhou Meteorological Satellite Ground Station. At present, she is a member of the National Satellite Meteorology and Space Weather Standardization Technical Committee, a member ofChinaMeteorological Science Popularization Committee, an executive director of China Association of Women Science and Technology Workers, and the President of Guangzhou Association of Women Science and Technology Workers.
She has won the Science and Technology Contribution Award of China Meteorological AdministrationandGuangdong Science and Technology Progress Awards.In addition, shewashonoredastheAdvanced Individual in the Implementation of the Outline of National Science Literacy Action Plan,theLeader of Science and Technology Innovation in Guangdong Province,the OutstandingContributor of the Ministry of Science and Technology,and asenior popular science writer in Guangdong Province. She has alsopresided orparticipated in more than 50 national and provincial scientific research projects,co-builtthe first Satellite Science Museum, Space Weather Museum,andFengyun Satellite Museum.Moreover, she has authored 6 professional popular science books, published more than 100 articles,heldover300 lectures,andcreated popular science videos.Some of her workhave wonseveralnational awardsandbeen widely reprinted bytheScience and Technology Daily andthe People’s Daily,whicharepopularamongtheaerospace field.
In this lecture, Professor Cao Jing shared us the romantic names of Chinese spacecrafts, the confidence from Chinese culture reflected by Chinese aerospace, the close connection between aerospace and people’s lives and the beauty from Chinese aerospace, leading audiences to explore the mysteries of Chinese aerospace. Professor Cao firstlymentioned the origin of Chineseflying dreamwith the illustrated PPT, whichdemonstratedChineseaerospace’romancefromfive aspects:romance of theirnames, poetic romance,romance ofpaintingsand calligraphy,romance fromclassical musicsand festivals.Then, sheintroducedthe development processesofChineseaerospace industry, and explainedthefiveessentialsystemsfor aerospace development:launchingsite, space rocket, spacecraft, operationcontrol system and ground application system.Besides, Professor Cao described the close relationship between aerospace development and human life from the impact of aerospace technology on clothing, food, shelter, transportation, medical technology and scientific research education. Finally, sheemphasizedthe spirit ofhuman spaceflightby appreciating Chairman Mao’s poems andeulogizingthe dedication of scientists like Academician Sun Jiadong in the field of aerospace. Finally, she extolledthe charm of spaceflightthroughthevisualbeauty oftheremote sensing, launching power, thecourageofchasingstars,themeticulous and precise engineering, the beautifulcloudsimages of meteorological remote sensing and the spiritof human spaceflight.Professor Cao Jing’sdelivered a passionate and informative speech, appealing totheaudiences present.
During the Q&A session, students enthusiastically asked questions and Professor Cao Jing answered patiently.Studentswerealso questioned byProfessor Cao Jingon theaerospace knowledge.After an active interaction,students thanked Professor Cao forhervividaerospace science popularization course with warm applause. Professor Cao Jingencouraged studentstocherish their college timeanddevote to china’sdevelopmenton science and technology.
